Neuro MRI

General Notes

Neuro MRI includes brain, internal auditory canals, pituitary, orbits, and spine studies. Confirm MRI safety screening and any implanted devices before scanning.

MRI Brain (General Template)

Indications

• Headache
• Seizure
• Demyelinating disease
• Oncology evaluation

Patient Preparation

• Remove all removable metal objects.
• Provide hearing protection.
• Assess for claustrophobia and offer comfort measures.

Contrast

Use gadolinium-based contrast when ordered or indicated by protocol. Dose and type per institutional standard.

Sequence Layout (Example)

1. Localizer
2. Axial T2-weighted
3. Axial FLAIR
4. Axial diffusion-weighted imaging
5. Axial susceptibility-weighted or gradient echo sequence
6. Pre- and post-contrast T1-weighted sequences in at least one or more planes as per protocol

Notes

• Adjust slice thickness and field of view per patient size.
• For stroke protocols, follow the dedicated stroke MRI protocol if available.
